D Magazine Partners offers a variety of internships each semester (fall, spring, summer). If you are looking to gain invaluable real-world media industry experience, you’ve come to the right place. Each internship position is a different learning experience, but nevertheless, what you will gain from working with our company is a road map for your future career endeavors. About our program
Working in the media industry is a fast-paced environment. Qualified candidates for our program must be able to work under demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, as well as possess excellent computer, communication and organizational skills. The D Magazine Partners internship program is highly competitive, and our interns are held to a high standard. Candidates must be available to work anywhere from 12 to 24 hours a week and commit to the full term of the semester. You must be at least 18 years old to apply. The D Magazine Partners Internship program is unpaid.
We are now accepting applications for our fall program! The deadline to apply is Friday, July 27. The internship will start on Wednesday, August 29, and end on Wednesday, December 5.

ADVERTISING/SALES INTERNSHIPS D Magazine Partners Ad Sales Intern
Have you ever wondered how those beautiful land in the pages of your favorite magazines? Are you curious to find out how your favorite brands show up on your social media feeds? We provide a behind-the-scene experience to the business side of the publishing world through our advertising sales department.
D’s growing advertising team is looking for high-energy, creative, and enthusiastic self-starters who share our passion for the advertising industry. Our interns gain a coveted first-hand experience in the advertising/marketing industry by working alongside our top ad directors for D Magazine, D Home, D Weddings, D CEO, and D Online. Plus, they gain direct access to networking with marketing directors of local and national luxury retailers, jewelers, high-end automotive dealers, liquor companies, and advertising agencies. Our multi-tasking interns can expect to tackle responsibilities of the sales cycle such as prospecting new clients, conducting first-hand sales calls, producing promotional material, updating account information, partnering on follow-up calls, and joining spontaneous brainstorming sessions for creative client advertising solutions.

With this internship you will observe, assist with planning and execute an event, assist with data entry, research, mailings, and promotional materials. Must be willing to dedicate office hours as well as weekend or holiday hours to assist on the execution events.
Responsibilities include monthly mailers, updating account information, follow up calls, production instructions, and learning about the sales process, as well as all of the steps taken to put every issue together.
ART/PRODUCTION INTERNSHIPS D Magazine Partners Production/Art Intern
Learn how we make those glossy magazine pages look so good and get practical experience along with some great samples for your portfolio. You will be working closely with production and art teams on design, management of assets, color correction and prepress. This is a great opportunity for a designer to see how it takes more than a good eye, to get the job done. Interns will assist in photo research, page layout, and ad creation. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is REQUIRED.
Responsibilities include helping with the work flow of the Production Team (e.i. helping create dummies, reflow pages), working on special sections in D and other publications, creating ads, and learning the production flow of magazines. DRC Publications Photography Intern

We’re looking for a photography intern; preferably a student who is interested in a career as a photographer. Assignments will consist of typical news photography (portraits, events, etc…), as well as “lifestyle” photography that depicts Dallas neighborhoods and beautiful and magical. Flexible schedule.
Responsibilities include scheduling and arranging photoshoots and building your photography skills while completing editorial and lifestyle photography assignments for Dallas Regional Chamber products. People Newspapers, Production Intern
The ideal candidate will assist the Production Manager and other personnel with a wide-variety of projects including newspaper layout, website management, and photography. Exceptional communication and team-driven abilities required. Must have a strong background working with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. WordPress experience is a plus.
Responsibilities include actively contributing to our print and online products, assisting production and other departments with web content and maintenance, and photographing various events within our community. Web Photography Intern
This internship will consist of taking photos for our neighborhood guides and any additional articles online that needs additional photography. You must have great time management skills along with being able to coordinate photoshoots.
EDITORIAL/JOURNALISM INTERNSHIPS D Magazine Editorial Intern
TIf glossy magazines give you a thrill, this is the internship for you. D Magazine editorial interns are smart, reliable, detail-oriented, talented, and curious. We’re looking for good writers and reporters who aren’t afraid to pick up the phone. Interns work closely with print staff to make every issue as perfect as possible, and primary responsibilities include fact-checking articles, covering local events, blogging, and working on projects for other departments and publications as availability and interest permits. Especially successful candidates will have an interest in pitching and writing for the front of the book section. You’ll discover the glamorous—and sometimes not-so-glamorous—side of publishing, and gain tons of real-world magazine experience along the way.
Responsibilities include fact checking for various issues, writing for online and print, helping with special projects, and research/contributions to the Best of Big D issue, among others. D CEO Editorial Intern
Are you looking for real-world journalism experience? Do you follow multiple news sources daily? Do you want to learn about the fast-paced world of business journalism and collect bylines at the same time? We need an energetic, smart, organized, reliable, and creative intern with an interest (or experience) in design, fashion, and weddings. If you have an interest in blogging, even better. The intern’s primary responsibilities include: writing, pitching ideas, and taking photos for our two blogs; fact-checking copy for our magazines; uploading events and trunk shows to the events section of the website; picking up and dropping off items for photo shoots; assisting editors with photo shoots; and writing small blurbs and entries for our magazines. There is a good amount of fact-checking, so the intern must be comfortable with making phone calls.
Responsibilities include fact checking for both D Home and D Weddings print products, interview brides and write wedding and engagement posts for the blog, research and execute new blog post ideas, and perform occasional research projects as needed. D Custom Editorial Intern
D Custom, an award-winning content marketing agency, is in need of a detail-oriented, energetic editorial intern. You’ll play a key role in producing a variety of content for a client base consisting of major global brands. If you’re looking to hone your editorial skills in pioneering ways across new media, this is the place to do it. Through this internship, you will learn the cutting edge of content creation and brand marketing, as well as old-school writing and editing skills. You’ll be a critical part of a hard-working team fueled by snacks and caffeine — and end up with some great samples of work to add to your portfolio.

You will write about the news and subjects that have Dallas talking for dmagazine.com. You’ll be encouraged and prodded to develop and pitch your own stories, but we have plenty of ideas to get you started. You will get plenty of published clips to show your journalism professors/prospective future employers, and will learn about the new dynamics of digital media.

You’ll cover all things Dallas lifestyle, from local real estate eye candy to the buzziest new shops or fitness classes. Are you in love with words as much as you are with starting new projects? Then we need your vision. We’re continuing to grow a new website called Dallas Innovates, which has a mission to promote the region as a hub of innovation. A collaboration of the Dallas Regional Chamber and D Magazine Partners, the site covers everything innovative in social, creative, education, startups, enterprise, and inventions. Our intern will be writing posts, attending events, helping with social media, attending video interviews, and searching for content. He or she will also help with the technical side of things (uploading posts, resizing photos, and a little editing). We’re looking for a writer who loves telling stories about the people and companies who are new, now, next. We need someone who takes direction well, keeps organized, and takes the initiative on projects. And since we’re a startup, we’re looking for that creative individual who can adapt as we grow.
Responsibilities include writing briefs and feature stories for Dallas Innovates website, establishing relationships in the community to deepen source network, and providing research, proofing and other editorial support tasks for Dallas Innovates. People NewspapersEditorial Intern
People Newspapers is looking for interns willing to juggle multiple assignments and take responsibility for a variety of projects, including editing police blotters, proofreading, writing blog posts, pitching story ideas, and writing stories. We need applicants with a love for the AP Stylebook and a desire to learn what makes a community special. In addition to the editorial side of things, you will help promote our brand through social media strategies, looking for potential clients, and maintaining existing client relationships. You will attend a variety of Dallas society events, so you must be outgoing and respect social etiquette.
Responsibilities include writing articles as well as blog and social media posts, researching stories, fact checking, coming up with story ideas, and making deadlines. Interns represent the newspapers at Dallas society events and on story assignments, assist with special events, conduct interviews, and sometimes take photographs. SideDish Intern
If you like food and, most importantly, writing about it – this is probably your dream internship. We’re looking for a top-notch writer for SideDish, D Magazine’s popular food news blog. You must be organized, self-motivated, and interested (or have experience) with food blogging. Photography skills are preferred, but not an absolute must. You’ll be spending most of your time entering dining events into our directory system, covering some of those events, writing at least two blog posts per week, interviewing chefs/restaurant industry people/etc., and helping us out with small projects as needed. It’s a lot of work, but by the time your internship is over, you’ll know Dallas’ food scene better than you thought possible.
Responsibilities include blog posts, updating online restaurant directories, and assisting the dining editor with gathering information for special projects. FrontRow Intern
The FrontRow Editorial intern is a strong writer, is familiar with the Dallas arts scene and hopes to improve their film and/or photography skills. They’ll have at least two bylines a week on the website and will be included in planning and executing larger projects.
Responsibilities include writing at least two posts a week on music, theater, film, visual art or literature as they relate to events or artists in Dallas, pitching story ideas for other writers, helping with research, and occasionally taking hi-res photos for the website. Research Intern
We’re looking for an organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic intern to assist us with editorial research. You’ll help plan and execute D Magazine‘s Best programs (Best of Big D, Best Doctors, Best Lawyers, and many others). You’ll work with many departments including editorial, marketing, sales, and design. Primary responsibilities include fact-checking information by phone, email or Internet, updating our online directory, and working within data collection platforms. Experience with Excel is preferred but not required. If you have great time management skills, enjoy working on many different projects, and have fun fresh ideas, then you will make a great addition to our team.
Research intern is responsible for fact-checking and updating our online directories (shops, services, restaurants, bars, etc.), assisting with planning and execution of editorial “D Best” programs (best lawyers, best doctors, etc.) from voting to fact-checking, assisting with the planning and execution of D Magazine-sponsored events, panels and celebrations, and assisting with the design and execution of social media and email marketing campaigns promoting D Best events and programs.
MARKETING/BRAND INTERNSHIPS D Magazine Partners Marketing Events Intern
The marketing department is looking for interns interested in event planning, promotions, and media marketing. An ideal applicant will be detail-oriented, creative, organized, and self-motivated. As a marketing intern you will observe, plan, and execute events, assist with data entry, research, mailings, and promotional materials. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and fast-paced sales and marketing environment. Knowledge of Adobe creative suite is a plus. Must be willing to dedicate office hours as well as evenings to assist on the execution events.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to assisting in the planning and execution of marketing events, create event photo galleries for the D Magazine website, and assisting the Marketing Events team in procuring event materials as well as brainstorming new and innovative event ideas. D Magazine Partners Brand Intern
This position focuses on marketing D Magazine editorial content, company/brand news, seminars, and events. Responsibilities will include developing contact lists, working with outside media, fact-checking data, assisting the marketing team with events, and developing creative promotional ideas. Additionally, and most importantly, the brand intern will help manage our social media strategy. Social media experience, good writing skills, and organizational skills are a must. If you like the pace of a political campaign and like working with young, fun, creative people and can manage an internship that offers no pay but great experience, the brand team may be for you. In this role, you will be out and about in Dallas, attending wedding-related events while producing content for our many channels. You will develop and fine-tune marketing strategy while tending to day-to-day social media maintenance. Social media experience, good writing skills, and organizational skills are a must. D Custom is looking for a creative, independent, and curious intern to assist on multiple projects. Responsibilities include conducting research and competitive analyses, writing posts for the D Custom blog, assisting in marketing initiatives and campaigns, preparing business development materials, and assisting in the creation of marketing collateral.
D Custom Digital Strategy & Social Media Intern
We’re looking for a fast-thinking go-getter to join our award-winning digital marketing agency. You’ll be creating and scheduling social media content for a variety of clients, so strong writing skills and social media experience with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Pinterest are a must. D Custom Account Services Intern
An account connoisseur, a client’s best friend, everyone’s go-to guy or gal — whatever you call an account services manager, we’re looking to add you to the list. D Custom is looking for a creative and hard-working intern who wants to gain account management experience. The ideal candidate must be an organized multi-tasker, possess impeccable verbal and written communication skills, and be eager to learn the art of wearing many hats. If you’re looking to gain agency and management experience in a creative and fast-paced environment, then D Custom is for you.
Responsibilities include assisting with clients’ daily needs, managing projects both day-to-day and long term, and proofreading and editing content. Through this internship, you will learn how to manage both internal and client needs to get work done and create content.
DRC Publications Media Development Intern
The Media Development intern will assist in the print and digital launch of a new group of business publications published by D Custom, and will play a role in the development and implementation of its marketing, business development, and public relations plan. This internship will give you a real “lay of the land” view of the publishing world. Thinking like an entrepreneur is a large part of this internship, which feeds on multiple tasks and projects. You will have the opportunity to help research, evaluate, and implement new business ideas. It’s a chance to experience how new ventures, ancillary products, special sections and sponsorship opportunities are developed — from pitching the idea, to follow through and end product. Interaction is with all departments, and will include some vendors and advertising clients. We require innovative thinking, an outgoing personality, great attention to detail, strong organizational and collaboration skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities include assisting with business development, coordinating marketing materials, creating advertising logs, research and analysis, and keeping up with media industry news and local competitors. Other duties are varied and may include participating in events and attending trade shows. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
FrontRow Engagement Intern
The FrontRow Engagement intern has a knack of writing concise, engaging copy and an interest in connecting people with the arts in Dallas. They have an established presence on social media and regularly attend concerts, museum exhibitions and festivals, and they like the challenge of finding a new angle for a widely attended event. Perhaps they’re not sure yet if they want to work as a journalist or a public relations professional; skills in both arenas make it tough to decide.
The FrontRow Engagement intern is responsible for: assisting the FrontRow editor in filling out the events calendar online, which includes witting original copy and assigning compelling images, identifying and corresponding with groups featured in or adjacent to stories or calendar items on the website, to pull in more readers and make sure links make their rounds on social media, and occasionally live-Tweeting panel discussions, concerts and other events of note.
